Frequently asked questions
What size A/C does my home need?
Whatever the load calculation says, not what the old label says. Square footage is a starting point, but windows, insulation, and ceiling height move the answer by a ton or more. Oversizing is the most common and most damaging mistake in our climate because it leaves humidity behind.
How long does a changeout take?
Plan on one day on site for a like-for-like central changeout. Conversions from mini-splits to central take longer because of the duct work involved. We give you the schedule with the quote.
Mini-splits or central, which is better?
Central wins for whole-home comfort and resale in a typical single-family home. Mini-splits win for additions, garages, and zoning specific rooms. The conversion path exists for homes that outgrew a wall-unit patchwork. We will recommend based on the home, not the margin.
Does a new A/C need a permit in Florida?
Yes. Every county we serve requires a mechanical permit and inspection for an A/C changeout. They also require a hurricane-rated tie-down of the condenser. Unpermitted changeouts surface at sale time and can void insurance claims.
Will a new system actually lower my electric bill?
If the old one was 10+ years old, meaningfully. Modern equipment moves far more cooling per watt. The gains compound when the ducts are sealed and the attic is insulated. That is why we look at the whole system, not the box outside alone.
My A/C is short-cycling and the home feels damp. Why?
Classic oversizing, sometimes made worse by leaking ducts: the thermostat hits its number before the system has dehumidified. The fix is right-sizing at replacement time, one of several reasons we insist on the load calculation.
