Do I really need a wind-rated garage door if I have impact windows?
Yes, and the insurance opening-protection credit requires every opening protected, garage included. Structurally, garage door failure is a common trigger for catastrophic roof loss. It is the weakest link of the envelope.
How long does replacement take?
Plan on one day on site once the door arrives. Manufacturing lead time for wind-rated doors runs a few weeks, depending on size and style.
Can I keep my existing garage door opener?
Often yes, if it has adequate lifting power for the heavier wind-rated door. We check it during the consultation and quote a replacement only if needed.
What sizes do you install?
Standard single (9×7) and double (16×7) doors, plus custom sizes priced per opening. We also enclose garage openings entirely, converting the opening to a structural wall, when a homeowner converts the garage.
Are hurricane braces a cheaper alternative?
Retrofit bracing kits exist, but you must deploy them before every storm. They add no everyday value, and many insurers no longer credit them the way they credit a rated door. We recommend rated doors for anything long-term.
Does the new door need a permit?
Yes. Garage door replacement is permitted and inspected work in every county we serve. The door has to carry the approval Florida's code sets for your wind zone.
